Syria, Arab Nations - Enemies of Liberty

Over the past week, Iran and Syria have become a greater focus as opponents to Liberty in the Middle East. At one point, it appeared that the Arab neighbors of Syria would call for their withdrawal from Lebanon. It didn’t happen, instead the Arab states

"decided to support Lebanon in its sovereign right to practise (sic) its internal political choices ... and to support its free decision to establish and strengthen fraternal relations, coordination and cooperation, especially with Syria".
In doing so, the Arab League's ambassadors committed themselves to supporting the violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions, a precedent that will not go without consequences, if the Bush Administration, the EU and Russia have the courage to stand by Liberty and the rule of law. That is, of course, not an easy thing for Putin, Chirac and Schroeder to do.

Whether it is the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Arab League, or the individual Arab nations of the Middle East, all stand on the side of repression, tyranny and fascism in ignoring the situation in Lebanon and the declarations of the U.N. Just as they do in their stance on the new Iraqi government, which they do no recognize as legitimate, instead calling it a puppet of the United States.

The question before us today, is whether or not the U.N. is willing to act on their defiance, or is the U.S. again the only nation willing to call a fascist a fascist.

UPDATE: As if Syria's denial of Lebanese independence weren't enough, they also have a hand in the genocide in the Sudan.
