China threatens Veto

While the U.S. continues to press for U.N. action against the Sudanese government and their support for the Janjaweed, China has threatened to veto a U.N. Security Council reolution calling for sanctions should the Sudanese government not disarm and restrain the Janjaweed.

The primary motive for Chinese and Russian dissent is likely to be oil. Arab and Algerian support for the government in Khartoum is more likely ideological in nature.

Genocide, ignored by the Middle East and supported in the name of oil by China. Now there is a surprise.

The latest from Channel NewsAsia.

UPDATE: CNN reports that the US has dropped language regarding oil sanctions. Perhaps we don't have the WILL to stop the genocide and to face our foes head on.
